Passing

My fifth game is out! This is my third game for One Game A Month, where the theme this month was “Death.” My game is called “Passing,” and it is available to play right here.

After the tiresome workload that Madame Zarena placed on me, I was eager to do something a little simpler this month, post it early, and relax for a while. I came up with a simple idea that could fit the theme, and it was easy in theory: click the screen at the right time to advance. That’s it! I don’t even care where you’re clicking. So simple! NOPE. It’s never as easy as you think it will be, of course, but even by those standards, this one has tormented me beyond reason. I decided to try supporting mobile browsers. After all, a tap event should be as easy to handle as a click event, right? In theory, yes. In practice, my game is ruined. Seriously, Passing has been a colossal failure on the mobile front. I finally got it sort of working on one phone, though, so I guess that’s good enough for me. With all the thousands of mobile devices out there, I’m hoping at least a few of them will work right. If you happen to try it on a mobile device and it works better than not at all, please post a comment and tell me about it. I’d like to know that it wasn’t a total wash.

It should work smoothly on a regular browser, though. As long as your browser hasn’t been running with more than twenty tabs open for a month like mine was while I was developing this game. Dropped frames damage the playability on this one pretty badly. Still, as long as you have a decent computer with a modern browser, it should work well enough to be interesting. I’m decently satisfied with how it turned out, anyway. At the very least, I’m glad to be done with it.

My record is 01:07:62, by the way. See if you can beat me!
